Have You Ever Thanked God for the Sucky Times?

We know to say thank you when someone does something nice or kind for us and we know to be grateful for what we have… but have you ever thanked God for the rough times?

You know the times I’m talking about — when money is tight, when you’re in the middle of heartbreak, when you lose a job or even a loved one — but in midst of those times, have you ever paused and thanked the big (wo)man upstairs?

I know, this may sound kinda strange, but consciously putting yourself in this frame of mind is incredibly healing and profound. Not only does it help in speeding up the sucky situation, but it also creates room for abundance and growth to seep in.

If you’re needing more convincing, get this… it’s scientifically proven that the human mind can only experience one emotion at a time. It’s impossible for you to be both angry and grateful!

*poooof* mind blown.

When you’re angry, you focus on what’s missing, what’s wrong and what’s unfair — which leads you to a downward spiral into resentment, anxiety and depression. But when you’re in a state of gratitude, your eyes open to see the lessons, the possibilities and the greater purpose.

Need some inspo on how to be more grateful? Gotchu.

  1. Start a Gratitude Journal. Everyday, write down 5 things that you’re grateful for.

  2. Before you ask God for something, begin your prayers with, “thank you for…”

  3. Keep an eye out for the silver lining. Even in the deepest and darkest pit of the suckiest moment, there is always a silver lining.

  4. Change your perspective. Having trouble thinking of something you’re grateful for? Put yourself in the shoes of a less fortunate person. Think about the things you would miss if they weren’t there. Like… your socks, a warm blanket at night, a fresh toothbrush, your left arm!
